ABOUT THE AUTHOR

PETER BLECHA is a music historian & pop-culture critic with the ability to offer insights about the past and salient commentary about current events. The author of Wired Wood: The Origins of the Electric Guitar, Blecha’s writings have also appeared in such periodicals as Life magazine, Vintage Guitar, The Rocket, DISCoveries, Seattle Weekly, Radio Guide, Feedback, The Monthly, UW Daily, as liner-notes on many LPs & CDs and (as a Contributing Editor) via the Pacific Northwest’s on-line regional history Web site: www.historylink.org.

"Forbidden Music" is the title of an essay the author recently penned to accompany the sheet music chord-book, Taboo Tunes: The Songbook, that he developed for the Hal Leonard Corp.

Late-2005 will see the publication by Sasquatch Books of the author's next book, Rock & Roll Archaeologist: How I Chased Down Kurt's Stratocaster, the "Layla" Guitar, and Janis's Boa. This book is a compendium of stories about his amazing adventures in the field of collecting musical rarities, uncovering lost historic artifacts, and curating museum exhibits. The Rocket magazine has deemed Blecha "the Indiana Jones of Rock 'n' Roll"
and his publisher agrees, saying that: his "story is a unique celebration of fandom taken to obsessive lengths, culminating in a lifetime of incredible experiences."

Peter Blecha's past includes stints as a Senior Curator with Seattle’s rock ‘n’ roll museum, the Experience Music Project (EMP), & as a board member with JAMPAC (Joint Artists & Music Promotions Political Action Committee) which contributed to successful battles against various proposed statewide legislative music-censorship bills & Seattle’s onerous teen-dance ban & anti-postering laws. He also operates the Northwest Music Archives, Muse Consulting Services, and serves on advisory boards for the Bloomington, Indiana-based Stone Age Insitute and the Seattle-based Northwest African-American Museum (NAAM).
